Water purification

Why do we purify water?

Water contaminated with organisms such as Cryptosporidium can cause diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, headaches and low-grade fever in healthy people for one to two weeks.

For infants, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems it can be life-threatening. Our purification plants remove these risks so that the water we supply is safe to drink.
